Switching To Linux
About
A few things will need to happen when I switch from Windows7 to a Linux distribution. I'll need to make sure the software I currently have installed in Windows has a Linux equivalent or similar. If I can't find something, I will have to see about installing it on a virtual Operating System, likely Windows10. Ideally I would like to either utilize PLEXSERV to virtualize Windows10, or have a dedicated virtualization server. I think ProxMox would be the best OperatingSystem for that, but I'd like to do more research into what is available and what would fit my needs. One option would be to purchase a computer with more RAM and CPU power to replace HOMECOMP tower and have the current HOMECOMP tower become repurposed as a virtualization server. I'll have to look into whether or not that's doable with the specs on HOMECOMP and what specs are needed to run ProxMox or some similar Operating System.
I'm also considering switching out the 500GB HDD currently in HOMECOMP for a smaller HDD, Maybe the 250GB currently being used for backup. Maybe even something smaller than that, one of the 80GB?

Distribution
I need to figure out which distro to use. Below are a few in the running.
- Deepin
- Installing from LiveCD proved unsuccessful
- Installing from Package Manager in Ubuntu proved unsuccessful
- Have given up on this OS for now
- Ubuntu
- Currently installed on secondary 80GB HDD (Not sure if this is constantly spinning though...)
- SteamOS
- Have not tried installing this yet
- May try installing via Package Manager in current Ubuntu install
