Steam Link

About

Steam Link is both hardware and software applications that enable streaming of Steam content from a personal computer or a Steam Machine wirelessly to a television set. Steam link was originally released as a hardware device along with the debut of Steam Machines in November 2015.[2] Valve quietly discontinued the Steam Link in November 2018, in favor of supporting its software-based Steam Link application for mobile devices and smart televisions, as well as providing Steam Link as a software package for the Raspberry Pi microcomputer.

RaspberryPi

SteamLink does not appear to work on my RasperryPi. Not sure if it's the Pi itself or my configuration. Not sure it would have done very well anyway since my only Steam game is a huge 3D game. Currently the Pi is running RetroPie.

FireStick

It seems that the Android SteamLink app can be sideloaded onto the FireStick. See the FireStick page for more info.

It seems that this setup works rather nicely, even using 2.4 gHz Wi-Fi streaming to the TV upstairs. I managed to sideload the SteamLink APK pretty easily via the downloader app. Once I got Steam up and running on the HOMECOMP and the setup completed, the stream had very little lag. I will need to get a controller in order to play Godus properly. Not sure what kind will work. Do I need to use a mouse?

Let's try connecting the bluetooth keyboard to the firestick. Maybe I can get a wireless mouse that doesn't need a dongle to connect? Probably cheaper to get a bluetooth controller though.
